چکیده

As part of a biosystematic study of the Lentinellus ursinus species complex in eastern North America, field and herbarium specimens from North America, Central America, and Europe were examined. Crossing single basidiospore isolates demonstrated tetrapolar (bifactorial) mating systems. Three biological species are recognized as L. ursinus, L. angustifolius, and L. vulpinus. The production of gloeocystidia and/or chlamydospores is considered taxonomically significant for identifying somatic cultures of these species. All three taxa produced laccase, tyrosinase, and peroxidase in culture and are white-rot fungi. This is the first confirmed report of L. angustifolius from North America.

Assessment of Accumulation and Potential Health Risk of Cr, Mn, Fe, Cu, and Zn in Fish from North-Eastern Mediterranean Sea

Heavy metal accumulation in aquatic organisms has been an important issue due to environmental pollution resulting from anthropogenic activities. In this study, Cr, Mn, Fe, Cu, and Zn in the selected fish species (Mullus barbatus, Solea solea, and Siganus rivulatus) from three consecutive bays (İskenderun, Mersin, and Antalya from North-Eastern Mediterranean Sea) were considered to provide some...

Genetic Discontinuities among Populations of Cleistes (Orchidaceae, Vanilloideae) in North America

Genetic patterns were examined in five populations of North American Cleistes with three sources of molecular data: amplified fragment length polymorphisms (AFLP), DNA sequencing, and plastid microsatellites. Populations of C. bifaria were sampled in four areas of the south-eastern US: the coastal plains of Florida and North Carolina and the mountains of North Carolina and West Virginia. A popu...

Evolution of biogeographic disjunction between eastern Asia and eastern North America in Phryma (Phrymaceae).

This study examines molecular and morphological differentiation in Phryma L., which has only one species with a well-known classic intercontinental disjunct distribution between eastern Asia (EA) and eastern North America (ENA). Phylogenetic analysis of nuclear ribosomal ITS and chloroplast rps16 and trnL-F sequences revealed two highly distinct clades corresponding to EA and ENA. The divergenc...

Phylogenetic and biogeographic relationships of eastern Asian and eastern North American disjunct Suillus species (fungi) as inferred from nuclear ribosomal RNA ITS sequences.

Species of Suillus produce fleshy, pored mushrooms. They are important symbiotic (ectomycorrhizal) partners of many coniferous trees. The genus includes several putative eastern Asian and eastern North American disjunct species, i.e., the S. americanus-S. sibiricus and S. decipiens-S. spraguei complexes. Phylogenetic relationships among the groups were determined to further understand the bioge...
